Chinatown Celebrates Its 64th Anniversary at Its New Farmers' Market
 

Chinatown will mark its 64th anniversary Thursday June 20th with a special celebration at the offical opening of its new farmers' market.

 

The celebration, complete with traditional lion dancers and Chinese artisans will also include cooking demonstrations of Asian specialties.

 

The celebration will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chinatown Farmers' Market at 727 N. Hill Street between Alpine and Ord. For more information call (213) 680-0243 or visit www.chinatownla.com.

 

Two Santa Monica markets Will Host Book Signings in July.
  • Alice Waters,  will be signing her latest cookbook, Chez Panisse Fruit at the Santa Monica, Wednesday Certified Farmers' Market on July 10, 2002, from 9:30 am till Noon.  The signing will take place on Arizona at the Third Street Promenade.

    Ms. Waters is the founder of the Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley as well as the author and co-author of several other books, including The Chez Panisse Menu Cookbook, Fanny at Chez Panisse, a cookbook for children, and Chez Panisse Vegetables.  She has received numerous prestigious awards, including being named one of the ten best chefs in the world in 1986, by the magazine Cuisine et Vins du France;  Best Chef in America and Best Restaurant in America, from the James Beard Foundation, in 1992.
  • Deborah Madison will be at the Santa Monica Saturday Certified Farmer's Market on July 20, 2002, to sign her latest book Local Flavors: Cooking and Eating from America's Farmers' Markets from 9:30 a.m. till noon on Arizona at the Third Street Promenade.

    Ms. Madison is the author of The Savory Way, which won the award for Cookbook of the Year in 1990 by the International Association of Culinary Professionals, The Greens Cookbook and Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone.
The Westwood Village Farmers' Market presents Local Farm Tours
 

Attention: Principals, Teachers and School Administrators, the Westwood Village Farmers' Market offers students a chance to visit a local farm to learn first-hand about plant biology, ecology, chemistry and geology not to mention commerce. The tours, offered Thursdays from 9 AM to 2 PM in the Spring (March - June) and Fall (September - November), are lead by Market Manager Aaron Shapiro. They include the visit to the farm, a picnic in the park, and a tour of the Westwood Village Farmers' Market. The possible farm destinations include ones in Reseda, Camarillo and West LA. The New Glendora Farmers' Market Opened May 2nd
 

The Glendora Farmers' Market and Family Street Fair, a SFMA certified farmers' market opened May 2nd to clear skies and good crowds. In a festive outdoor street setting in the Village of the City. the market offers the finest in fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, juices, breads, specialty items and much more.


Located on Glendora Avenue, 1/2 mile north of Route 66 (formerly Alosta Avenue), the Market is open each Thursday evening 5:30 to 9:00 May 02, 2002 through Sept. 05, 2002, rain or shine.
